NITV, 8.30pm
Reality television tropes got a welcome shake-up with the first season of this warm observational documentary series about the indigenous matriarch Daniella Rule, a Noongar woman who was raising nine daughters after her husband was senselessly killed in a random act of violence. The plotlines that radiated out from their busy family home in Perth were familiar to fans of the genre, but whether they were about teenage independence or dating, they came with a sense of cultural history and social relevance that served as a unifying force. Expect to see more in the second season, including second oldest daughter Shenika continuing to lay down the law. CM
